What Are PokerStars Marketing Codes Used For?

When opening their new PokerStars account, many players get curious about the “Marketing Code” field. I can’t tell you how many people have asked me what the field is for and what they should enter.

In this article, we’re going to talk facts about PokerStars marketing codes, breaking down exactly what the codes are for, whether or not you should use one, and why.

Let’s start with a basic question we get a lot: “Do I have to use a marketing code?” The answer is a clear no. If you enter absolutely nothing in this field, your account creation will proceed normally and you’ll still be able to claim the first deposit bonus at PokerStars. The field is there so that PokerStars can further track which affiliates have referred which players – affiliates receive a commission from PokerStars for referring players, and that’s why they’re so eager to have you enter their particular Pokerstars marketing code.

“Can I still get a deposit bonus if I use a marketing code?” Yes – the marketing code, as discussed above in greater detail – does not impact your eligibility for the first deposit bonus. You could put nothing or anything in the field and you’d still be eligible for the first deposit bonus.

“Is there any reason to use the marketing code?” Yes. Some affiliates offer you special bonuses, like free software or other rewards, if you use their marketing code. If you do not use their code as instructed, they may not receive credit for your play with PokerStars, and the rewards you were promised will evaporate. Note that any affiliate offering rakeback on PokerStars is not an approved affiliate and that signing up through such an affiliate may create problems for you and your account down the road.

Hopefully that clears up any questions you might have had about the PokerStars marketing code.
