Game type: Small $30 MTT online at Bodog Poker
Stage of tourney: 100/115 remain
Avg stack: ~1600
Your image: You doubled early and have been active
Opponent’s image: You don’t have any feel for them
Your hand: J♥4♥
The setup: You doubled early with a set of kings in this small online poker tournament, and since then you’ve been pushing some chips around. You check-folded the turn after making a c-bet on the flop three hands ago. This hand, UTG limps and the table folds around to the SB, who completes. You check and flop top two:
J♣4♠3♥
The SB checks and you bet 40 into 60. UTG calls and the SB folds. The turn isn’t the greatest:
K♣
You decide to keep betting and fire 100 into 160. UTG now raises you to 280 total.

I don’t think you can call here as another shot on the river still leaves you wondering. A raise here defines your hand a bit more, and if he goes over the top then maybe a fold however it might scare hi off or elicit a call which could indicate just a king. It might also allow you to check it down on the river, to take a decent pot.
Fold isn’t out the question if you are being cautious.

Let’s take a moment to think about what Villain might have.
He could have limped with a top-4 hand, in which case we’re in fat city against AA or AK. Less likely is that we’re dead against the unlikely KK or and watching him get stupid with QQ.
He could have limped with some punky little hand like 77, 56s or 33. If so, he’s either overplaying third pair, trying to run a bluff with his draw thinking that we are congenitally weak, or trying to extract value with a set. It’s conceivable he has KJ, in which case we’re in trouble; it’s also conceivable he has AJ, KQ or KT, in which case life is good.
I’d like to extract more money if we’re ahead and avoid going broke if we’re behind.
I voted “call,” planning on donking the river and expecting an annoyed AA or AK to give us action. I think re-raising now on our part chases off AK and AJ, which otherwise would pay us more on the river. I’ll take my chances that a scare card doesn’t come.

May seem weak, but I could find a fold here.
I don’t think QQ+ play this way, perhaps AA. We are behind KK, KJ, JJ, 44, 33 of the realistic range that V may be holding. They could have floated the non-descript flop w/AK (limping PF). Would AJ raise here? Perhaps, but we have shown strength oop, so I believe a call is more likely.
Think I talked myself into call, and a subsequent c-c on the river. The turn call will also control pot-size. I think AK pops-up here.

i like a call here, and check call on the river.
he may have hit the king and thinks hes good, or he may be bluffing the king, or he may have k/j or a set. thats a wide range of possibilities. calling here slows down the action in case we’re beat and creates a river situation most likely to get another bet out of a single pair of kings or a bluff, while minimizing risk against hands that beat us.
the only downside is we’d lose a bit of value against a stubborn single pair of kings with this line as opposed to reraising here or leading river, but that seems minor. as far as reraise here, in a checked bb, he knows we could have a funky 2 pair easily, so if hes any good, hes folding a pair if we reraise. leading the river small would be more likely to be called by a king, but id rather try to induce him to bluff air if thats his plan, then worry about getting raised by a better hand, or risk losing out on inducing a bluff in favor of trying for a bit of value.

It’s doubtful V thinks we have 2 pair, it is a fluke after all… What does V have? It’s been popular for many players to occasionally limp with AA or AK utg while it’s not the most original move, it’s fun to do!! (good 4 us)!
Realistically, V is trying to see where he’s at by raising, he has KQ most likely. If V is brilliant, he has just sprung his trap & setted us Already with 33s!!!
We seem to be representing a J obviously, but a big raise would tell V KJ! Then we know what he has if he raises/calls or folds. We like a big raise of 1.2x the pot! If he/we call(s) and river is an A K Q or 3, we’re beat; therefore we wrap it up now With a big bet to preserve the win and keep doubt in V’s mind. Bigger than pot raise.
If V has KJ and we were representing KJ, the 1st one to bet wins!!

It’s easy to lose this hand once V has paired his king, don’t expect timid table tappin’ once he’s Kings Up!

At first look of this hand, we have ‘em covered, so a shove is okay also!
