Sportsbetting 101: Bankroll Management
This is one of my most hated situations that I ever encounter. We have shown huge strength by raising really early Then we get 3 bet by the guy in the BB. We only call, and then they shove straight into us. They have completely taken control of the hand right out from under us, now we are faced with a decision to call all in. We have no read on the person, and we don’t really know much else about their hand.
The only real safe facts we have here are that we have a made hand, the 9s didn’t help him, we are getting 2:1 on our call, and there is only 1 over card.
The real bad news, is that I don’t know what we could beat that would make this move. They know we are very strong, so they have to put us on at least JJ+, AK, maybe AQ. Plus they 3 bet us, and now are shoving into us. When we called the 3 bet instead of coming over it, we basically announced loud and clear that we don’t have QQ+ or AK, and maybe JJ depending on our image. So when we call, he knows his JJ+ or AK hit is good all day long. There are no draws so its not like he’s protecting his hand. He knows we have something good, but he knows his is better. More than not this is a value shove, and he wants us to pay him off. He knows we are getting 2:1, and that it will be difficult to fold.
I think we have to bite our lip, sigh, and make a really disciplined lay down here. he’s representing the goods the majority of the time here. he isn’t kidding.

Hey General – just wanted to say I really appreciate your advice. You always have thought out responses to these quizzes and think of stuff that doesn’t enter my mind. About the quiz yesterday, from your reply to what I wrote – it sounded to me like at the six handed table that deep in the tourny there was no way you were not getting all your chips in the middle with those pocket nines…is this correct? I’m just thinking about other possible lines and it seems like most people would think folding those preflop would be way too weak, but putting ANY money into the pot should commit our entire stack. Sound about right?…thanx, Nelson

What I was trying to say was 2 things: 1) At a 6 max table, 99 is a beast. 2) Considering the exact circumstances, it called for getting all of the chips in.
The hand didn’t dictate getting the chips in, the circumstances did. We just had the luxury of having a great hand. If 4 people go all in before us, the circumstances obviously say we have to fold, despite having a great 6 max hand. But these circumstances said: we have a great hand, we have a guy with enough chips to double us up, and on top of that he has shown he wants to play against us. These 3, paired with us having a beast 6 max hand, equal get all of it in while we’re good. See what I mean now?
Thanks for the kind words. I’m no smarter than the average dope, but talking on here makes me a better player I think. I’m sure others feel the same.

Whats up! Nuthin to speak of lately. I was outta commission for awhile but I’m excited to start gettin into the swing o things again. I’m about to start playing with this poker league in the Bay Area. They have 20 tournys for $25 bucks each and you can choose any 12 to play in. At the end of the year the points leaders go to Vegas for one of the lower buy-in WSOP tournys. Can’t wait! Besides that I’ve had a string of min-cashes in Omaha tournys on PStars but no final tables. You?…

Not much here – work has been getting in the way of my hobby time a little too much lately… maybe I need to re-evaluate my priorities
Agree with the general that we have to fold here.
TT is very often the best hand dealt but when it’s not, we should be glad we get the correct signals to quit and prevent disaster.
Of course it sucks but some hands just don’t get a happy end.

Come on…if he had a King would he lead out?? He has AQ or a smaller pocket pair. Call and win.

Fold and look for a better spot. There are a few shorties at the table that are going to be looking desperately for a spot to chip up and push forward. You have 2 average stacks to you’r left that you might be able to get some blinds from if the table is even remotely tight.
As played? I probably would have 4bet shoved pre. I think flatcalling was probably you’r worst option, as at that point, you are probably setmining. If BB was making a play at you with the 3bet, nice play and even nicer followup, but if he had ANYTHING within a normal OOP 3betting range, i think we are nothing but beat. I think the determining factor here is that V has 3bet OOP unless he has an incredible read on us.

your fault for flatting 1/3 of ur stack pre fucking donk.
JAM OR FOLD PRE NO FLAT. 1010 is crushed by their range most of the time.
His Jam is the same as a pot bet. FOLD.

This comment caught my eye:
“your fault for flatting 1/3 of ur stack pre fucking donk.”
(Not necessarily talking about this particular hand) When deciding whether or not to flatcall, what percentage is typically considered too great. I agree that 1/3 seems a little fishy here, but I was curious what others’ thought processes were. Thanks in advance!

Oh I hate this so much. We have to fold, because of the possible TT+/AK, but it just smells bad. Some read should be good on the opponent.

Agree with all above to fold now and should have 4 bet pf. Still have enough chips to make some noise instead of calling an all in. Tho I do think he missed the flop.
call and watch him river your ass. Lol.
