Flopped straight draw, NL MTT

Game type: $109 2R 1a PokerStars
Stage of tourney: Rebuy period closed
Your image: Active
Opponent’s image: No strong read
Your hand: A♠J♠
The setup: You’ve been playing quite a few pots the last couple of orbits when the following hand comes up. You get AJs in EP; UTG raises to 2x and you call. A MP player calls and the BB calls. You flop a straight draw:
Q♠T♥9♦
The BB and UTG check. What’s your play?

Check and reevaluate (most probably c/r)
What we know so far: both BB and UTG declined to lead. BB, UTG might missed the flop but can be slowplaying as well. You don’t need to bet to find out: E is more than likely to bet and you can see the reactions.
If they fold you can raise E as his range is full of air. If BB/ UTG calls it might be better to call though, esp. if neither folds. And if BB or UTG c/raises I’m afraid we must fold. They are less likely to c/r light with live player(s) sitting behind them.

This is the kind of situation I think I misplay too often. In reality I think I would tend to lead here.
Here is a question. Let’s say we check, using Morat’s reasoning, and the player behind leads out for a water-testing 1200. The others fold, and we check-raise to 2800. Then E thinks for a bit and calls. The turn brings the three of spades, improving our draw. What then? Out of position with a nut flush draw and open ended straight draw but just the river to come, 8500 in the pot and an opponent with 9200 chips?

I’d check-call for the following reasons:
1.)Hero’s hand is not that strong, and even a hit to the straight could result in a chop.
2.)Too many opponents, all of whom we have no read.
3.)Image has been active.
A lead leaves Hero vulnerable to raises. MP has the shortest stack among the opponents, so action could commit them.
C-R seems like a high risk play given the number of opponents and our image. While the check from the EP raiser shows weakness, the board likely hit a couple of your opponents in terms of pairing and/or draws. If Hero had been more on the inactive side, perhaps this move could rep strength however in a multi-player pot I still see too much risk. Check, see if we can get a free turn. If a spade hits, perhaps then we make a play.

I think the only value to leading here is that it disguises our hand a bit in the event that we hit our straight or backdoor flush. I prefer a check-call to control pot size - not a fan of building a bigger pot when all I have is a draw. We lose the advantage of deception this way, but with 3 other players chances are we’ll still get action from one of them if we hit.
BTW - I’m praying for a king to hit the board so we can get action from JT/JQ with 2nd best straight…

wheres the check-fold button? this is a terrible spot. 4 way in a raised pot with all big cards, we have no pair, and no action if our draw gets there. we have very little invested, we’re beat right now, and get no action if we improve. um…yea.
check, hope our draw gets there for free, and we take what we can. if there is action after the check, gotta let it go unless youre in there with donkey call stations who will pay you anyway, despite that being the dumbest thing possible.
i suppose if a king hits, maybe you make money from someone holding a jack, but lets be real here, save yourself the cash and find better spots.

total blah here. In a 4 handed raised pot, it is highly likely one of these guys holds one of our K outs. Even if we hit our draw, it is unlikely any of these guys have a real hand that will pay us off to chase.
Lets face it, the real reason this hand was played is because it is a decent suited Ace. The real intention here was to either hit the ace on a dry board, or have a quality flush draw. We don’t have any of those. Its quite likely any of our straight draws will be a chop, and any bets we make will just be done to win those same bets back. regardless of the fact that one of these guys could already have it, its very possible the piddly preflop was called by someone with a KJo. or J8s. no point here. just hope we can see a free turn card, and if that turn isn’t a K or spade with a decent price for a river card, we’re out of here.

Check raise this bunch of losers!
