Game type: PokerStars, $320 freezeout
Stage of tourney: Mid stages
Your hand: T♦T♣
The setup: You’re dealt TT in the SB of this $320 freezeout on Stars. You have an active image but haven’t really gotten out of line. A few players fold and then a player in middle position who has been raising frequently (and folding to 3 bets) raises to 3x. The table folds to the button, who seems TAG.
The button re-raises to about 3x the first raise. What’s your play?

Fold.
Calling is out question. 4 betting ATC here must be +EV but this is not the right spot for a lot of factors.
If we 4bet this it is going to be a bluff, not for value obv. According to reads it is very likely that both players are weak in this hand, but if we’re mistaken our TT will be fliping at best.
Our depth is awkward: we cannot shove, it would look rather AKis and bluffish, and we’re gonna get called by better. If we raise to let’s say 1500, will we fold our TT to a 5bet allin? I think we can’t.
It would be a great spot to cold-4bet bluff w/ 92o, since we could let that go easily. With TT we can find ourselves in a spot where we will have to risk our stack being likely behind but not having the option to get away.

Voted fold, but honestly it’s based more off of my position than anything. You can’t really reraise, and if you flat call and the loose player continues to the flop as well, the only way you’re going to like where you are after the flop is if you spike the set.
If the button’s table awareness is good, let him shave a few chips off the loose player; if it isn’t, probably means he’s got a pretty solid hand and you don’t want your 10s in there anyway.

Good quiz.
Option 1 – Call – I don’t think the implied odds are there. We would really need a triple-up if our set hits. I think at least one of the opponents is light, thus the pay-off may not materialize.
Option 2- Fold – could be ahead of both hands. However, being oop, coupled with uncertainty if TAG button is playing back at the aggressor (vs. holding a big hand) make this a viable option.
Option 3 – Raise – I’d lean towards a 4-bet of 1250 and calling an AI 5-bet. Problem is two-fold: I don’t want to see a flop, and if opponents fold, the pot is only 715. I see more risk than return.
Tough decision since only 4 hands are ahead at this point, but I think you fold here.

Don’t need a race here.
Or your behind.
Don’t forget there’s 1 more player after you.

Gotta fold here… I agree with samo. In addition, since you have an active image your r-r is likely to get little respect. People are more likely to believe in the law of averages when it comes to starting hands than they are to think you’re just on a total heater.
So since calling is simply braindead, and r-r is going to be additionally difficult to get 3 folds, I’m folding here.
