Check.

Our opponent’s line here is very suspect.

Is he really check-calling two 2/3rds pot sized bets out of position with just top pair?

Is he really going to call a third with it?

Its certainly possible our opponent is a calling station with a stubborn jack, but without a read along those lines I just don’t find it plausible. Did our opponent really get this far only to now check-call the majority of his stack off against a tight player whilst holding top pair?

I concede its a bit of stretch to think our opponent is trapping us. Basically thats the hands 108 flopping a straight, any six getting runner runner trips or 85 hitting a straight on the turn. Not a huge range but certainly the sort of junk a BB who checks his option might have.

Basically for me it comes down to the fact the pot is already huge and any bet we make now committs us.

In a spot like this where I have a lot of doubt about whats going on I’m just going to check-through, see what he has and make a note about what sort of hands he’s willing to check-call multiple streets with.

by my count you have about 300k left and the pot is almost 1.2 million, meaning your opponent isn’t going anywhere even with a jack.

Also, even if he flopped 2 pr that got counterfeited at this point and you have him beat.

FINALLY, if he had a good hand, there’s no way he would check it to you here. He knows you would call getting 5:1 on your money, and he can’t possibly put you on a draw, so he would bet a straight here to avoid you checking it down.

In short, I think you had him beat all along, but even if you didn’t, the river couldn’t hurt, and he will probably pay you off with just a jack given the huge pot odds here

Voted check. Hero may leave a bit of value on the table if v paired the flop. However, no read in a limped pot tells me to be content building stack (potentially) to $2M. Still have an M~6 after the hand.

Wow…check @Blackfair…really?

This is pure value bet time. There is no way a set let’s you drive the bus to the river. A set will check raise the flop or turn with potential draws and such. So, villian has a Jack. Bet, they call, you win. And if they were slow-playing J9, well, that’s what you get!

This. Bet for value. And don’t limp aces.

What´s the problem with J9? AA66 beats JJ99.

Bet for value;his most likely holding is a pair with a str8 draw or 2pair that just got counterfeited. He obv. thinks his hand has showdown value,so just charge him for the privelege.

Missing to value bet spots like this is a huge LEAK.

I agree with you in cash games, but I’d check at this stage of the tourney.

black fair Reply:

obviously you bet this for value in a cash game.

thats a no brainer.

AGRRE but I also bet in this spot for value,in a ring game is a no brainer.

As I said likely hands TP with str8 draw and a counterfeited 2 pair are most likely.Easy value spot IMO.

Pot is 1188000 and you got left about 300k so just go all in.

For those who are not value betting,; 1.5m is av.stack, who are you planning to do with the 300k left? You are guaranteed a call, villain is getting the right odds to call even knowing he is an underdog,so guys, just try to get full value of your hand.

Hero has 838K left if they check it down and lose.

alekhine11 Reply:

Aha ,I thought 838k was his starting stack, sorry.

I bet 400k ,giving him 4/1 making it a compulsory call for him with his 2pair hand.

i would not have limped aces. but would check at this stage.

Have to bet this for value. We have the best hand. 6 was the best card we could ask for, counterfeiting his 2 pair if thats what he has. Chances are very slim he flopped the straight or caught runner runner trips/ boat after calling the flop. Its spots like this that make the difference between great players and mediocre/weak players. You cant play scared if youre going to build your stack and make a run for the top spot….play strong and take advantage of situations where you have the best hand and someone is chasing or stubbornly calling you down.

This whole situation would not even happen if our hero just raised PF like he should have. It’s very possible he’s holding the 10 8, and the board has not produced anything for the villain to fear, so he can afford to just check-call, with a possible check-raise on the river. I really don’t think I would be convinced he holds the 8 10 here. I would most likely just push, if he holds the nuts, good for him. If the board didn’t pair, I would check here. I do think if he held any pair in the hole, he would have not let us just limp PF. So for the most part, I think it’s a good place to get your chips in.

I voted bet under half pot, given the draw heavy nature of the board and the stubborn check call, check call, I think far too often you can get a crying call out of a pair, or a counterfieted two pair by betting 300-400k. IF you do get chk raised, (which I find too be really unlikely unless he was blessed enough too go running sixes) as gross as it is, its safe too assume you can ditch and have 500k left behind. But the way the hand played out nearly every time I feel you can get a value bet in on the river in this hand by making a smallish bet on the river.

I bet 1/2 pot river, He didn’t flop the straight, and if he did, it happens. It is very possible he flopped 2 pr with J-9 and we counterfitted him onthe river

2 pair or better for sure would check-raise on turn given hero’s tight image limp in early pos.

Villain most likely put you on overpair or AJ and perhaps a set of 7s and want to call you down cheaply to the river.

This is a river bet for value so less than half the pot is a good chance to extract from losing hands.
