Daily Hand Quiz

DailyHandQuiz

Game type: $100 2R 1A tournament, PokerStars
Stage of tourney: Rebuy period open
Your image: Aggressive
Opponent’s image: No strong read
Your hand: Q♠Q♣

The setup: You’ve built up a solid stack so far is this two rebuy, one add on tournament. Using both rebuys got you to 7500 and aggressive play got you the rest.

This hand you get QQ on the button. A EP player limps, another player limps and then the hijack makes it 1400 to go.

To the best of your knowledge the hijack still has one rebuy remaining.

What’s your play?

Raise obv. Calling and watching one or two others join the party and then seeing an A or K hit ain’t my kind of fun. Any raise commits us against any player so may as well keep up the aggro image and shove it all in.

Easy raise, and expect to take all of Player E’s chips. There’s no way he would make a raise that big with KK or AA, so we definitely have the best hand. If we let him see a flop and there’s an Ace, we don’t know where we are, he could well have hit it, but he might have JJ or TT, some people play them like that. Being in the rebuy period is even more reason to raise.

The rebuy period is no longer able for us,as we have used both of them,so is not that easy.

I´d raise all in ,expecting to be filpping against Hijack´s AK.Not happy tho.

Voted raise. I’ll make it 4800 which covers Players C&E, and hope Player D did not limp with AA or KK. Our agg image will likely get at least 1 caller, especially from hijack. Don’t want more than that with QQ; E will get a decent price if C calls. Still have a playable M if beaten.

Well any raise is going to force the original raiser all in if he wants to call. Looking at it from that perspective if it was just the wo of us this would be a question of call or shove. Clearly shoving would be the correct play with queens.

However we have two limpers and shoving into the 14K limper is not a good idea when we have no rebuys left.

Raising here without shoving is not ideal because we will be committing a lot of our stack and increasing the chances the pot is mulit-way. QQs aren’t for getting in multi-way big preflop pots.

In my opinion I really want to find out what the intention of the limpers is before I go committing too many chips here.

So I flat call.

If everyone flat calls with me then so be it I’m set mining in position for a small portion of my stack.

Most likely though is that the limpers will fold or re-pop. You can handle the first limper re-popping – the original raiser won’t be able to re-raise and if the other big stack comes along for value we’re still in a good spot.

If the big stack limper re-pops it though you have to fold here.

QQ’s are good but the question here is whether to play them like a premium hand or to play them like 1010/JJ in position.

If we’re playing them like a premium hand here we want to be heads up and shoving.

If we’re playing them like a strong pair we want to see a flop cheaply and be getting good mulitiway odds.

We can’t be guaranteed of getting this hand heads up by shoving. If we shove and get called by more than one player we’re in bad shape. If we get called by the big stack we’re in really really bad shape.

So just call. We’re in position. Use that advantage don’t throw it away by shoving into the unknown.
