Well, besides T9 and KT there really aren’t many draws here, so your opponent either has air, a pair, or better. If you’re beat all the money is going in regardless, so you want to extract the most value from air and pairs.

You only have two pot-sized bets in your stack, so I’m voting for a check here. Give him a chance to catch up, get comfortable with his hand or get brave and bluff. Your move might be a bit transparent, but betting is going to be pretty obvious to, and with your stack you don’t really need to build the pot.

What actually happened: You bet 2875 and the limper folded.

I’d be hoping he limped with A-J or A-T, or maybe A-Q for variation. They all have some value now even tho A-T is just an over card and an inside he might think he’s got 7 out’s. In any case I think there’s enough hands that fit he’s play that also connects with the flop to bet and those that haven’t connected (middle pair) will either stay air or beat us if he connects later. Conclusion he’s either calling a cbet looking bet now or he’ll only be calling us later if he has improved to something that beats us

I don’t follow the check to hope he catches up line as what card can his hand hit on the turn that doesn’t give him two pair / trips / straight. At this level rebuy I think it’s unlikely that someone would limp call with a broadway combo (KQ, KJ, K10, Q10) and therefore I’m putting opp on a hand like 99 that called for some set value but hoping for unders. In which case it comes down to whether we think it is more likely (or rather less unlikely) opp will call / shove with an underpair now with two overs vs on the turn after seeing some weakness but with the chance of a third overcard. Seeing as we know nothing about him I’m leading here, pot is over 40% of our remaining stack. A shove could in fact be the best play to make it look like we have AK.

If you want value for your bluffs you can’t always slow-play your big hands. I’m for a straight value bet here and I’m perfectly happy to rake the pot when they fold.

check-call and raise on the turn if no dangerous card like k or 9.

im thinking its very possible that the q or j hit him, and a bet will be met by a raise or at least a call. im betting to look like a c-bet and hoping to get the money in now, not after he “catches up” and has a better hand then i do.

if you check raise, he folds anything weak, or maybe draws for free. whereas any pair here can try to play position on you and raise what could easily be a c-bet.

@ CityBorn

What hand can limp call a reraise that would hit a Q or J? Limp calling with AQ-AJ, KQ-KJ or a truly sick QJs? Do people really play that bad at this level? Totally agree with the logic behind betting rather than checking though.

I would lead, but be thinking “weak” very hard at my machine and praying for some action.

@ Richard

its not a matter of playing bad. Any of those hands you mentioned and many more (q/10 j/10 j/9 etc) could have easily tried to sneak into a hand with a limp (especially suited) and see if they catch. If you raise under 3x, you are out of position, and you dont have one of the smallest stacks at the table, they might want to see a flop and play position on you. Its not necessarily “bad” its just a bit loose.

oops, sorry, meant you DO have one of the smallest stacks. -meaning they dont have to be worried about getting involved in a huge hand that might really cripple them. They could just try to catch, either flop the best hand or put pressure on you since you will be concerned about becoming very shortstacked or busting.

im not saying I agree with that as a good play necessarily, but its a line that could easily make sense for an unknown opponent.

I would lead out with a half to 3/4 potbet here, hoping to see him reraise/shove AQ sorta hands. Slowplaying here will give him optional free cards if he has a draw which you dont want to happen either. So bet to protect your hand with the chance to get your money in on this flop.

We’ve all had our Aces cracked. Isn’t the biggest reason usually because we let our opponent see another card? I’m betting around half the pot now and shoving if he re-raises.

Bet half pot based on texture of flop. Be happy he called toyr pre_flop raise. Question: do you show your aces after they fold?

I don’t mind a limp/call letting the BB into the hand and then shoving the flop. Will take my chances nobody flopped a big hand trying to get one of the two to connect light and call.

Checking here is just stupid, the pot is plenty big enough and he could have a hand like AJ or KJ where a check might not only make him suspicious and check back but allow a scare card to come and get him to shut down. Plus those times you have TT and AK you sure aren’t checking those, so you might get action from a draw or air anyway.

I voted lead. It looks like a c-bet so not worried about losing the villain. With Q and J on the flop, the v could very well have hit. I don’t think the v is on a draw, so would lead light, perhaps 2.4K. This bet size may also be perceived as a weak feeler.

I CR the flop and lead for pot on turn if it goes check-check. I am not that worried about giving a free card here as long as it increases the chances that I can get my money in.

With M5 this guy limps from EP? The hands i’ll be thinking are pretty much AA,KK,AK,AJs/o,88,77,66,55,KQs/o KJs,QJs and maybe JTs. So i’ll be asking myself which of these hands are not going to 3 bet me but will be willing to take a stab at the pot if I check and will not call if i bet. Will 55,66,77,88 do it – I think is ulikely. Can they catch something to imrove them to 2nd best on turn -no. What about the other hands – i think they’ll call, but may not bet suspecting a trap if i check and check behind me. I’m bettin weakish here hoping to induce a raise and then hapily call or shove. Let’s say I check and the bad guy checks behind me and 6,7,8,9,T,J,Q,K come on turn, i bet and he shoves am i gonna call – yes, will i be happy about it – probably not. So I chose bet early to avoid dissapointment :)
