Our answer today comes from loonbat, who played the actual hand in the Super Tuesday…

“Villain wasn’t overly aggressive but had opened twice and folded to a reraise twice in the last 2 orbits. My image was very tight and I expected that a reraise would get a good number of hands I was racing against to fold.

When he 4-bet shoved, while certain hands I was racing against were possible (specifically Ak), it was doubtful he was shoving hands I was outright beating. TT should have been folded in hindsight, leaving me a very playable 29 BB stack.”

What actually happened: You called and opponent showed QQ. You failed to improve and lost the hand.

Early raiser that pushes after a reraise. Bad spot for tens. I fold and I’d fold even jacks and queens.

LOL @ folding QQ in this spot

LOL? Think about it, two tables remain, early raiser, solid winner, we reraise out of position and we have a tight image. He pushes. What do think he has? Certainly not tens or jacks. He has queens or better. I’m not pot committed so I fold my queens. In fact he thinks a bit before pushing with queens, because queens is the least he wants to push with.

Kaimano sums it up perfectly.

For most part I agree with kaimano, except I think villain still pushes JJ because:

1) he has a playable stack even if he loses

2) he has folded to a re-raise twice lately and a third time really hurts his image (plus he might broaden our range because of that fact)

3) there is additional benefit of knocking out a player, although not significant.

Yeah…have to fold. At best youre hoping for a race with AK…otherwise youre crushed. I just cant see him pushing here in position against a tight 3 better with 99 or less.

with that stack, you can’t 3-bet and then fold to a 4-bet although you are probably racing at best, this is call as played…..

We can’t 3 bet with an M of 16 and then fold to a 2.5x pot shove putting us all in and leaving us with an M of 12?

this was not a really good play in general, maybe call the original raise, but seriously, y would anyone call for your life with 10s? you are every much likely crushed. and i am a risky player to say the least and i would fold this to a four bet shove.

We have a plenty of chips to wait for a better spot, and the opponent has to be strong to 4 bet against a tight opponent.

The old saying is don’t go broke preflop with a Q in your hand… why would you want to go broke with 10s. I’d be upset about having to fold but with 10s in this spot you have to. And I agree with Kaimano, I definitely fold Js and probably Qs in this spot.

Honestly, I would have called before I saw the extra info from loonbat. He’s folded to reraises before, but not this time. He’s got us crushed. Fold, and wonderful analysis by kaimano. I too would fold up to QQ in this spot (but obviously not KK).

Action Brett

Considering our stack size and the proximity of the final table, calling the original raise is probably the play i would have made, but what happens when the board comes all unders? how much more will I lose? Hitting the set here is the implied odds play. One of the main reasons you raise and reraise in poker is to gather information. based on your opponent’s table image, your reraise gave you just enough information to make the laydown. He’s a smart, winning player, who has no reason to put more than half his stack at risk here without AK+.

Based on the time he took to consider his action, I assumed he had jacks or queens. Definite fold, since your stack isn’t hurt as badly as it could be, and it’s doubtful he’d have pushed with just overcards. Fold and be grateful that he didn’t wait till after the flop to push, when you might have been in big trouble.

Just starting to pick up the hand to hand strategy and I gotta say this quiz is pretty helpful. Good stuff guys.

lol @ 3 betfolding TT here. Keep your 3bet folds to hands you cannot profitably flat with from the BB. I call all day…
