Small pair in BB, WSOP satellite

Game type: $100 turbo rebuy WSOP satellite, PokerStars
Stage of tourney: After add on
Your image: Tight
Opponent’s image: TAG
Your hand: 5♦5♣
The setup: You’ve been showing down strong hands so far this tournament and have a pretty tight image. It’s a turbo, so the blinds are big and they’re going to get bigger in a hurry.
30 players remain in this satellite; the top two get WSOP main event packages.
This hand the table folds to the button, a pretty reasonable player, who raises to 4x. The SB folds.
What’s your play?

i fold here.
when BTN raises 4x he’s committed against us.
If we shove he must put 4500 in a 19300 pot so we have no FE. Here i shove 99+, AJ+. call is obv really weak

I hate these spots.
Does “Villain being pretty reasonable” mean that he raises very ligth here?
I dont really know what to make of players who still open for 4BB when 14BB deep. It seems like he wants to look comitted, and he definately is.
At first I voted fold, but having having noticed the antes later, I really question that decision which was close to begin with.
It is also very important for the decision how loose the rest of the table will call your steals if you fold, and how likely they are to let you shove first in in late position.

It’s turbo. Gamble.

It,s turbo, you are facing only one player and it is the button. you dont gamble now you will be down to about 5M,2nd short stack and might have to get some action with who abuot any game.

This is a sucker gamble. I’d rather have the notorious sucker hand KJ than 55 in this spot. Opponent looks committed and probably is if our TAG read is right. If he calls he does not hold A-rag or a lower pair, unless he donked himself into a corner with this raise and gets greedy because of pot odds. So it all comes down to our read of the TAG image. I’m gonna fold absent a better read.

Close, but fold, I just dont like being at best a coin flip and at worst dominated. Yes its a turbo, but Im sure there will be better spots soon. I can gamble anytime, and Id rather be the one making someone else call.

This one’s tough for me, but I shove. Button’s range is much bigger with blind/antes at meaningful levels and nothing but folders in front. At this point, a coin flip is likely in any hand I get involved in. I don’t see that blind stealing will be very successful with big stack on button for small stacks bb and when I’m on button, I’ll likely be facing a shove. Tough spot to shove, but with an expanded range and questionable opportunities to gain, I take what I think is a coin flip and hope for the best.

No one has mentioned this. All options mentioned so far are viable but a Stop and Go could possible work here. Call the bet and then push the flop no matter what. It gives you the same results as all in preflop since he is committed but there is a chance if the flop totally misses him he folds because calling your flop all in with no pair would lower his chipstack even more.

Fold.

You are guaranteed at best case scenario that over cards will come on the board. If the villain hits, you are dead in the water drawing to two outs. Considering the amount of pre-flop folders it would also be a smart assumption to believe that one of the other players may have mucked one or both of your other two fives.
If he has a higher pocket pair (which is a 25% probability according to CardCruncher) than why bother in this spot to go all in as the dog.
Fold here. Pay the 1200+100 small blind for the next hand and see 5 free hands before the next round of blinds hit you.
You are by no means a stack here.

I like Patricii’s post. But if you don’t take that advice, shove. It’s a turbo, which I don’t play because they suck. You’re going to be in a coin flip at some point in the next couple of orbits. Will you get a better hand than 55? Maybe.

This all depends on how you have played in this position up until now. IF you have been defending you blinds, and he has not been pushing…than he has a hand and you should fold. If you have folded the last 5 times to raises in the blinds, he sees an opportunity, and you should call. Also you need to take into account the sb what kind of player has he been, would he likely defend this raise, if so, than it is more likely the button has a hand. This situation cannot be determinted unless you could see the past 30 hands.

FOLD! If your only other move is to shove….. your opponent is calling because she/he is pot committed then it is a coin flip or you are dominated. If you fold…you are still within striking distance with a less than average stack…..and soon you will have position.

You don’t really have any fold vig here, so this becomes one of those problems where you just assume that you’re actually facing an all in. In that case, you’re calling about 9k to win about 13k. So, do you feel ok about getting a little worse than 1.5-1 here? Well, against a range that includes all aces, pairs and broadway, you’re flipping. Even against a less favorable range that cuts out the pairs lower than yours and a lot of the broadway cards, you’re still only a slight dog.
It’s a turbo, and only the top two spots are worth much of anything. I’d rather raise thanc all with small pairs, but this seems like a decent spot to gamble.
What actually happened: You folded
