Pair out of position in the river, Poker Stars Sunday Million

DailyHandQuiz

Game type: Poker Stars Sunday Million
Stage of tourney: ITM, 36 / 7001 remain
Avg stack: ~2m
Your image: Solid, a little tight
Opponent’s image: Same
Your hand: Q♥T♥

The setup: You’re deep in the money of the Sunday Million. You’ve been kind of card dead and playing a little tight. This hand, the table folds to the button, who makes it 2.5x to go. The SB folds and you call. You flop top pair:

4♠4♣Q♠

You check, and the button checks behind. The turn seems pretty harmless, the 5♥. You lead for 240k, about half pot. The button calls. The river makes the flush with the 3♠.

It’s your action. What’s your play?

What actually happened: You led for 400k and the button called and mucked when you showed your pair.

Button raise PF may simply have been a steal attempt. After checking the flop, you haven’t shown anything so his call of the turn bet makes me think he’s got middle-ish pair; 66/77/88/99/TT and he thinks he might still be good but he’s worried you’ve got a Q and had opted not to bet the flop.

The flush on the river doesn’t seem a likely holding as he called a 1/2 pot turn bet with only one card to come and even a combo draw on the turn seems unlikely given that he’s the shortest at the table and opened preflop with a raise.

You’re losing to AQ/KQ, but beating most other Q hands and the middle-ish pairs that seem the most likely holdings. Make a smallish river bet that he can’t refuse with these hands that you’re beating.

I go for the smallish lead of 1/4-1/2 pot. Something like what actually happened.

Villain range doesnt include whole lot af hands you beat that will call a large bet.
I dont think we get away if he has the flush or other things that beat us unless we check-fold, which is too scared imo.
He could have a low Q slowplayed, a 5 with a decent kicker, or a medium pocket pair as suggested by others previously. I like to just try to get some value from these hands and betting 400k.

Probably a check, purely hoping that he all-ins which you can call

button looks like he has air-nothing here

Bet somewhere between half pot and half his stack, which is about 60% of pot. This is an enticement to shove.
