The setup: The table has been very loose with lots of preflop limping and calling of raises. There hasn’t been much 3-betting and nobody seems to be particularly aggressive. Here, four players limp and you make it $40 to go with queens. The button flat calls, the first limper calls, two limpers fold and now the fourth limper makes it $175. What’s your play?

The fourth limper shouldn’t have kings or aces…if he has them he’s a donkey and we’ll soon have his money.

If this had been done UTG or so,I would be concerned.
Here I take my chances and push. Of course we could slowplay in position, but imo the donkish player could easily have 99-JJ, sp what to do if an A hits the flop? Better shove or fold, and I go for the shove.

If our opponent is really trapping, he’ll get my money… but I doubt he does. Why limp in this position with AA or KK ? He may have a good hand and think we’re picking the dead money. Let’s raise him.
And I’d really like to know what happened ![]()

Agreed. He probably has AKs or a medium-high pocket pair.
That being said, when you do learn to start laying down QQ in certain rare situations (in cash games) you have started to get good as a poker player. This just isn’t one of them.

You’ve obviously had a change of heart, onlinepokerincome, since in the September post you said that you’d automatically fold here.

I’m thinking shove here. There’s no way this guy would pot it with a made hand. My money is on middle pair or AKs/o or AQs.

Quite possible that he thinks that you’re just doing a tricky play in position like raising big with TJs or that he has a hand that he doesn’t actually want to play post flop (JJ of course!)
There’s probably more hands that he’d raise with that you are actually beating then have you beat here, and given the money in the pot i think you really have to stick all you’re money it, either now or on the flop.

Let the clock wind down - click the time button. And then push all-in.
Then watch the idiot call with JJ’s or TT’s.

To olpi: I first of almost always like your take since I’ve been watching this column (6 mos)…I value your opinion the most of all commentators….I think your current response is better than the one first posted in Sept last year. We all grow in making right decisions. He doesn’t have AA or KK…shove

ps…what actually happened?

Dan Harrington reccomends to play aces or kings like this once in awhile. TJ Cloutier is known for playing aces or kings like this becuase he doesnt mind folding them post-flop in huge multi-way action
