Medium ace facing late position push, 45 man NL SNG

Game type: 45 man NLHE SNG
Stage of tourney: 19/45 remain
Avg stack: ~3200
Your image: Tight
Opponent’s image: Had been tight, loosening up
Your hand: A♠T♠
The setup: You’re making your way toward the final table of this 45 man SNG when the following hand comes up.
The table folds to the CO, who had been playing quite tight in the early stages of the SNG but has seemed to really loosen up as his stack got to about 10 BBs. He open-shoves for 2k.
What’s your play? If you don’t call, what’s the minimum hand you’re willing to call with?

Blinds are not worth the risk of calling with a marginal hand like a medium ace. We have just passed the blinds and we have another ring to wait for a better spot. Fold and learn to be patient

I don’t see how you could be worried about the blinds. If it would have been folded to you, it’s an insta-push with ATs. The biggest problem is you hardly ever want to be the one calling a push in these SnG’s unless you have a really big hand. On the other hand you should be pushing quite liberally yourself.

I intended the “blinds” not as “people” but as “money in the pot” to be won.

I voted fold. I just don’t see many hands you can beat right here except for a lower ace. If your opponent had KQ,KJ or any pocket pair you are at best a 60/40, therefore I don’t think its worth risking your stack in this situation, esp. with two people to act behind.

Like what everyone else said, fold. If the cutoff had folded to you, then this would definitely be a good hand to raise with. But not worth calling IMO. I’d put the raiser on AJ+, 77+, KQs.
At best we’re 60/40, and we can be totally dominated by TT+ or a better ace. Just wait for a better spot; don’t be bothered by the results of this hand and just play properly.

This stage of a SNG is all about optimal spots. You need to find optimal spots to double up and this ain’t one of ‘em. Calling is likely not an optimal spot unless you have JJ+ / AQs + against this chips stack. Remember, they have more chips than you. So, it’s not like you have 4k in chips and this call could put you in the stratosphere. This is a marginal call in a marginal situation with a likely coin flip.
Now, the result was the CO was pushing with a weak ace. This has to be the absolute bottom of the range we should expect.

Call all day for me. At worst we are a coinflip - probably slight favourite. I go for it here.

at worst coinflip?? Ah ah ah!

I call here easy
Player has loosened up so he’s shoving wide enough range that we’re a favourite vs his range. We need the chips to go FTW which is the whole of these 45 man SNGs. Can’t play for ITM. If we make a stand and double up we’re looking good and may be able to punish the weak short stacks like you guys who want to fold AT in this spot.
If we fold here it’s gonna be tough to find another spot to shove because next hand we have to shove on the big stack who may be the type of playing who calls wide with a big stack. Then the blinds come around bang we’re half the average and left with just a chance to get back to average

The pusher has you covered - not a good idea to call with this hand with all your chips for a preflop shove no matter what position it came from.

This just isn’t worth it. ATs is not a calling hand to put yourself all in.

I fold, I dislike gambling unless persuaded by decent odds or a reasonable read.

Easy Snap fold. Only way I shove if we are 7 handed and UTG has 1500 or less stack and he jams at 200/400 I am coming over top with this stack. The reason for this is most players don’t wana sit in the big blind and rather jam a wider range.

I said call
But mostly cos im a tard who doesn’t know how to play at this stage in a tourney and i’ll just shove any ace and most kings and any pockets, so ATs seems like a really good hand to me
:]

Call!!!! You are beating his range, therefore it is a good way to get chips. You are not playing to survive at this point of the tourney, you are playing to accumulate.
You beat his range, therefor it is a +EV call.

I agree with ibluffheaps. He’s loosened up and has gotten cocky perhaps winning several previous blinds. If i called and he showed a monster well then I assume he pushed when the rest of the time with weak hands. Hes under 10x BB so he is getting pressured to survive w/o getting blinded out. If we called either the Blinds will fold b/c we have a tight image. If blinds have a monster then thats the game Most of the time they dont have a hand though.

If the blinds were 200/400 then this would be leaning towards a call, but as the way this hand is played out, a call here with ATs is terrible play imo

My minimum to call here is TT/AQ +

You’d obviously prefer to be be raising rather than calling with ATs. That said, it seems like the CO is going to be pushing a pretty wide range in this spot. Against a range that includes all pairs, most broadway and A6 , you’re a slight favorite. Drop it down to any ace and some weaker kings and you get to 60-40.
That said, you’re still facing two players behind who have a small but relevant chance of waking up with a hand that whoops you, and you still have a stack that, while shrinking, can be wielded effectively to steal blinds. If the blinds were a little bigger or there were some antes added to the pot, that might tip this to a call, but it feels like an unnecessary gamble as it stands.
What actually happened: You called and the raiser showed A5o. Your hand held up and you took down the pot.
