Archive pick: Second nut straight facing a massive raise, no limit cash

Game type: 5/10 NL
Your image: Very active and solid early on, have tightened up recently with the addition of more players.
Misc notes: Opponent in this hand has been calling you down light and losing. He recently doubled up against another player (that has now left) when he rivered the nuts and raised all in.

The setup: Preflop, you limp with the 7d 5d, and the tables folds to the CO who limps along. The button limps, SB completes, BB checks. The flop looks decent for you…
9♥6♠4♦
… and the table checks around. The turn is a gem:
8♥
… and that’s when the action starts. The SB overbets to 90, BB calls 90. You raise to 270, and the CO (out of nowhere) pushes all in with a tremendous overbet to 1600. The button folds, and the SB and BB both call all in.
What’s your play with the second nut straight in this spot?

When the big money goes in a limped pot you must have the nuts. If the pot was raised preflop I’d have called but here there’s a T7 around. Fold.

lol the turn must be an action card but i cant actually put 4 hands out there including ours that wud call for all this cash must be a staright and flush draw in someones hand and at least two pair in another not to mention to the 10 7 that has to be out there. lol who wud play poker for a living to much stress as i have painfully found out for every donk out there there is a shark waitin to stike on its prey

I voted fold, but seeing that the other players were pretty short I am not that sure anymore. After all, you dont have to beat them if you beat the CO, had not noticed that. Anyway, not going broke in an unraised pot for 160BB cant be that horrible a rule, so folding is probably still a good move.

wheres the staff comments on this one?

Clear fold. You don’t have the nuts, and you have no outs against someone who does. With three allins there is probably a T7, maybe of hearts, and a set or two.
This is what happens when you open limp UTG with trash like small suited one gappers.

The all-in raiser has the nuts. Easy Fold.
This is the kind of nonsense that develops if you play 75s under the gun. I would almost NEVER play that hand in a cash game, not even as a blind-stealing move from the button.

This is definitely a crazy hand, but it’s our own fault for not betting the flop with an open-ended straight draw to see what kind of hands the others have (Is someone slow-playing a set? Two pair? A bet here would have given us an idea).
So now we’re in the spot of guessing what the cut-off has. He’s our only concern, because we really don’t mind losing to one of the blinds, as long as we can scoop that delicious sidepot from the cut-off. Despite the fact he recently raised all-in with the nuts, there are just too many hands here that we’re beating that he could make this move on (any set, 2 pair, A-7 hearts, 10-J hearts) that I think we can reasonably gamble vs. the possibility of him having the nuts. I vote clench your teeth and call.
Of course this isn’t my money, and making this call in actual play would make me crap my pants, so who knows?

Shouldn’t have been in the hand with 75o. That said, I’d call. If someone has T7 that’s just bad luck. I would not call with the lower end though.

Your play looks like someone with a strongish hand trying to get rid of the other big stack so he can play his two-pair/set/straight draw against the 2 little stacks
Quite possible he’s massively overbetting you so he can get you to fold and so he himself can play against the other 2 little guys.
If he does have the nuts it’s a semi retarded way of playing it, why not just to a 2.5x bet and keep you in the hand and then get the rest in on the river. what he’s doing here is just liable to scare you away (which im guessing is what he wants)
