Straight on turn vs all-in raise, high stakes cash game

DailyHandQuiz

Game type: 300/600 NL
Your image: Aggressive
Opponent’s image: Aggressive
Your hand: T♠9♥

This hand is taken from actual game play at the 300/600 NL holdem table at Full Tilt. This hand took place between ‘Shark_Man_Mike1′ and ‘tie53′. You’ll be standing in for ‘Shark_Man_Mike1′

The setup: You opponent has been very aggressive this session and has already taken down some huge pots against you. Here they raise to $1800 and you call with T9o. The flop brings you a straight draw:

J♣2♣8♠

You check and your opponent bets $2400. You decide to check-raise with your draw to $8400. They think a bit and then call.

The turn is the 7♣ making your straight but also putting the third club on the board. You lead out for $15,600. Tie53 thinks and then pushes all-in making it ~36k for you to call.

The last three times Tie has pushed all-in on the turn, he’s had a very big hand, and you’ve paid him off all three times. Also, Tie has shown you several bluffs, but they’ve all been on the flop or on the river.

Do you call?

I put fold. Why would you doubt someone who’s been consistent every time. If he’s consistent with his making strong bets with his big hand on the turn then he’s probably not lying here. plus the fact that he called your huge re-raise instead of just letting it go, I’d assume he had a reason to call. Bluffers don’t like to go too deep into a hand if they feel the person has something. They want easy money if the raise is met with a re-raise they’re usually gone… unless their name is donkalicious

So, you have to wonder…what would a big stack call a flop check-raise with on this board. The range here is quite large IMO. I mean, they could have two pair, top pair, flush draw, straight draw, and of course the other bigger hands. But, I don’t think you flat call a check raise with an over pair here, so I’m pretty sure that is out.

Now, you have to know something about the opponent and put a probability to each hand. Then of course you can get caught up in the he knows that I know that he’s shoved and he knows that I know that he knows that….

Bottom line for me was that I have a straight and I’m beating everything but a flush. Two pair, top Pair, Over pair, Set….all losing. So…I call - and lose. Hmmm….maybe I stink at this game!

I agree with CityBorn

If you are not going to call this you shouldn’t be playing heads up cash games

Am I missing something? I don’t see the turn card there!

I can’t put him on any other hand except for a made flush.
Given the fact we could easily be on a flush draw ourselves on the flop and the very attractive odds of the all in, the opponent cannot be bluffing, almost for sure

if you fold here, hes gonna have you covered at least 7-1. what are you going to do with your 36,000 to his 219,000 that hes gonna take if you fold? with that much in the pot,for the 36k youve got left, you have to call reguardless.i make that call all day long, and if they turn the flush then i lose, but if i fold i lose cause there is nothing you can do with 36k when your opponant has over 219k

This is HU people. Ranges are a LOT larger so he could be making this move with a flush, Top pair, a set, two pair, a semi-bluff with one club or even a complete bluff.

You’re beating everything but the flush, so call. It turns out you’re just very unlucky. But that’s poker…

Hello? did anyone actually read this bit:

“The last three times Tie has pushed all-in on the turn, he’s had a very big hand…”

So let’s be logical and fold.
