Daily Hand Quiz

Game type: No limit tournament, PokerStars Sunday 2nd Chance
Stage of tourney: 18/1202 remain
Avg stack: ~200k
Your image: LAG
Opponent’s image: Initial raiser has been straightforward, caller is a top online pro
Your hand: 9♦9♣

This hand is taken from actual game play in the PokerStars Sunday Second Chance (200+15) on July 1st 2007. This hand took place between 24shack24 (SB), xthesteinx (Player F), and Admiral_111 (Player E). You’ll be standing in for shack

The setup: You’ve played your LAG game to nice effect as this tournament winds down to the final stage. With 50k for first, and over 1100 players in the rear view mirror, you’re feeling good about your chances when the following hand comes up.

The table folds to Player E, who raises the minimum from the cutoff. He’s been playing a fairly standard game, with few twists or turns. Player F (xthesteinx), a solid, thinking player who’s been leaning toward the tighter gear with the short stack, flat calls. It’s your action in the SB.

The money doesn’t jump again until the final table. You have a fairly LAG image.

What’s your play with nines?

Call
The Flat call from the solid thinking player on the Button looked like a lot of strength to me,
Release the Hand on the Flop if you dont hit a 9 tho, the chances that you play against a overpair are far to great in this scenario.

I’m calling in this position to see a fairly cheap flop. If no help, I’ll be tossing to a bet.

Don’t like the push in front of a minraise (report is player is straightforward, but minraise could be high pair looking for action), and a flat call from a pro.

I like setmining here – call and push when the 9 hits, get out otherwise to any bet (even if flop is 2 5 8 rainbow).

Call.

The button has an M of about 4.5, yet flat called a raise… I would strongly suspect a monster pair at this point.

I think you easily have the implied odds to call… if you hit that set, you will probably get to take F’s stack.

What would have happened if we had called? I would guess that BB would have re-raised, the CO would fold, and the button would go all-in… and then we would have folded, keeping most of our stack.

As said by others, call and play the hand on the flop only if a 9 appears.

I dont mind his play..comming up vs AA and KK is pretty nuts. Call seems right here in this stage of the tourny.
