Daily Hand Quiz

This quiz submitted by user Sam – thanks for the quiz, Sam!

Game type: No limit sit and go, 50 +5 buy in
Your image:
Stage of tourney: Early
Avg stack: ~1700
Misc notes:
Your hand: A♦7♦

The setup: Preflop, UTG+2 decides to make the minimum “donk raise” you often see in the early stages of a SNG. Player D calls as well as the SB. Given the odds, you decide to call with your suited ace.

9♦4♦9♥

The board brings you a flush draw, which you decide to bet after the SB checks. The initial raiser calls and the other players fold, and the turn pairs your ace:

A♠

The turn doesn’t bring your flush, but you’re happy to pair your ace. It’s your action and there’s 400 in the middle. What’s your play?

I like a check/call here as well. It’s very likely that we’re ahead here, but there’s also a chance that we’re drawing dead…

Our opponent could hold a bigger ace or some sort of 9, so let’s not build a pot here.

I would check/call the turn…

On the river, if he checked behind on the turn, you have to bet any river. If he bet the turn, I’d check/call any non diamond or lead with the flush…

I’ll bet about two-thirds pot here, calling a raise. I think I’m ahead and don’t mind putting out a value bet in this spot.

I’m not sure why the staff says that our bet on the flop indicates a flush draw. Why is a flush draw the only thing that bets on the flop? I disagree with that: leading out is not common on a draw, check/raising or check/calling are more usual. So I don’t see how someone would put us on a draw after the flop bet.

I’m betting normally here. I’ve led the flop, I’m going to continue to lead so that there’s no indication whether the Ace helped me or not.

The problem is if I’m behind to a larger Ace. If so, I’ve still got the flush outs as well as 7s.

Also, I can’t put him on a 9, maybe A9s, but it’s more likely that I’ve got a 9 since I’m in the BB and had great pot odds to call with any two cards. It doesn’t say what the flop bet was which would be useful to determine if I can represent value bets of a trey.
