Underpair on scary board in position, high stakes cash game

I’m going all-in. The way BB played this hand, it’s obvious that he’s worried here. Why not “convince” him to toss in his cards to my imaginary QTd nut flush. If he had played stronger, I wouldn’t be doing this, but the pot is much too large NOT to in this instance.

Well, if you pull out a bluff, it can only be all-in, otherwise the odds will be too tempting for him to call.

Now, if we go all-in, can we make him lay down the hand? I don’t think so. You’ve been reraised pre-flop, and even though you have a loose image, you have to give credit to your opponent for the reraise, which could mean strong pair or strong ace.
So, QQ+ made a set and AK, AQ made two pair. The only hand that you can make your opponent lay down is AJ, but I don’t think AJ could have called your rraise on the turn (+ you already have JJ in the hand).
If your stack were deeper, you might make someone fold with your all-in bet, but here you wil give your opponnent 8:3 odds, which is omho enoguh for a call with two pair.
As the staff said, if you would have bet all-in on the turn, it might have worked.

This is a situation that deals with the question of positive expectation. In order to justify a bet on the end, you must consider your hand to not only be the best hand but to be the best hand, if called. In this situation you could have the best hand, however if you bet and are called, you almost certainly do not have the best hand.There is no positive expectation in betting because if your hand is best your opponent will fold anyway, Whereas if they call a bet from you on the end, it is almost certainly a call you do not want.

I responded earlier, but the website didn’t take my response. I went into a little more detail the first time around, but I’ll try to sum up here…

This is a definite check on this hand.

With sbrugby being UTG+1, I don’t think we can assume he’s raising any two cards here. Therefore, it is incorrect for the BB to 3-bet with a huge range. So, I think it’s safe to put a relatively small range to our villain’s hands here: AA/KK/QQ/AK, maybe AQ.

Wow, the only hand that did not hit our villain here is KK. Everything else hit huge. So, I think it is pretty wise here to check behind on the flop. Basically the only flop a 3-better OOP is going to check there is a hand that he wants to trap with. It is possible that he has KK and isn’t too happy about his cards, but even KK is going to lead that flop to try and take the pot right there.

Bam, the turn card just completed every monster hand that our opponent can hold. AK/AQ/AA/KK/QQ are at least all two pair monsters and it’s also possible that he’s holding a set of AAA/KKK or QQQ.

However, the diamond also gives us a good card to bluff with since we would have most likely checked behind on that flop with that draw. So, I don’t hate the bluff here from Townsend, but your opponent has to be able to laydown two pair or a set. Our opponent makes the call.

Now, he can’t really call that bet and then fold to a big bet on the river when a brick hits. If he thought his hand was good after the turn, he absolutely has to call here on the river.

So, we’re Townsend. We know out opponent has (at the very least) AAQQ and we know that he’s called a decent bet on the turn. We know that he can’t be afraid of the brick on the river. Will he fold two pair often enough in this spot to make it profitable to make one more bluff? Absolutely not. If someone calls on the turn thinking they have the best hand, they have to call the river.

Can’t like just giving up on the hand, but we have to conceed the hand and write it off and move on. Heck, it’s really not even worth hitting the check button since there is virtually 0% chance that you’re ahead. Might as well just hit the fold button, except that you want to see your opponents hand.

I’m guessing that he’s trying to say that to make a bet here, we either have to hope that a worse hand will call us or that a better hand will fold.

Well, it’s very clear that no worse hand will ever call here, so that’s out of the question. But, can we get a better hand to fold? If the villain was holding AJ or AT, then it might be possible to get them to fold. But, I think that most players are going to be willing to conceed that if they’re beat holding two pair or better heads up, that it’s some sort of a cooler anyway.

i think to bet would be a mistake. Some players check and when you bet they raise or go all in. They get a bundle of your $$$. To me JJ is not good enough with an A, K, Q on the board to go all in. I would check.

2 pair or better will call a bet, so will Ax if he thinks you were drawing.

You can only be confident that another busted draw will fold… so its too risky to bet.

i would have pushed, pretty weird play by bb, checking top pair on the flop, i would have put him on 10-10 ( on of them a diamond) because of him only calling on the turn

Obvious check. If we had any piece of the baord we would have be the flop, not checked it. Going all in requires our opponent to be thinking on the 4th level which he is definietly capable of doing…. however in high stakes games players think on a 12th or 13th level and for Brian Townsend to successfully bluff he will ahve to convince the opponent he is making a correct laydown by thinking on the level Townsend want him to think on. Also because the baord is so wet with any slight piece of the board a fold isnt happening. This looks like a definite check behind.
