Daily Hand Quiz

This hand quiz courtesy of HighStakesReport.com

Game type: 300/600 NL cash, heads up
Your image: Very aggressive
Misc notes: You have beaten your opponent for almost a quarter of a million so far this session
Your hand: Q♦T♦

This hand is taken from actual game play at the 300/600 HU table on Full Tilt. The match involved well-known pros Brian Townsend and Ram Vaswani. You will be standing in for Townsend.

The Setup: You’ve been owning Vaswani in a serious way this session, getting the better of a couple 100k+ pots for a win of over 250k to this point.

You’re dealt suited Q10 on the SB and make a standard raise to 1800. Vaswani re-raises to 6000 and you call. The flop looks good for your hand:

J♦8♦3♣

… and when Vaswani leads out for 10,200 on the flop, you’re faced with a decision. With over 20k in the middle and plenty of chips behind for both of you, what’s your play?

I call here just to see the next card. No reason to reraise on a draw. He is already raising for me . If he checked I would raise but with a pre flop raise and a raise after the flop from him let him dig his hole.

Great analysis! With this big of a drawing hand 9 diamonds, 3- 9′s and 3 Q’s a total of 15 cards you should assume win you the hand with 2 cards to come puts you in a situation where you want to see both cards. The reraise prices you in if he comes over the top, or it may take down the pot right then, or if he just calls you’re in control as he’ll likely check the turn and if so you then have the option to get the river card for free, all thanx to your aggressive post flop raise.

I agree with a large raise here. The only problem is when Vaswami has a higher flush draw. But, heads up with only two possible draws higher, I have to say that this isn’t a huge threat.

If we can assume our flush outs are live, we are looking at a minimum of 12 outs even vs. AA. Given Vaswami’s aggressiveness, we obv can’t put him on AA every time he three bets PF. Even against AA, you’re virtually a coin flip and against his range here, you’re much better than that.

If he’s got top pair, you’ve got 15 outs…
Against middle pair, you’ve got 18 outs…

There is no way you can flat call here though. If you catch a blank turn, you can no longer call a massive bet with your odds to win the hand cut in half.

Raise hard here and call a push.

The fact that when the money goes in you’re already ahead and have 18 outs to have your opponent drawing dead.

Nice response, but I disagree with your assumptions Ally. If he hasn’t hit something, there’s a good chance he has a straight draw, a flush draw, or perhaps a queen or ten with a better kicker.

I would raise him, but small. If you bet big, he will put you on a draw and come over the top. Of course he did that anyway, even with the small raise.

Massive overbet is my favorite option.

I am relatively sure I am not behind but I am not sure if I am ahead. I am thinking that this could be a coin flip so I want to win the pot now.
