I think a check-raise bluff has a much better chance of succeeding than a bet bluff. If he checks behind, so be it.

See, look what happened to the 100K I sat down with, I am continuing to donkey it off to Phil.
I’m matching the pot here, and folding to a reraise.
I’m so tired, I’ve been heads up with Phil for going on two weeks now.

check and fold to a bet. You tried and lost. It’s time to give up. You already semi-bluffed on the turn with no success. And there’s not much on the board to scare him with even if he’s holding a marginal hand. The only alternative I would consider would be at least 2x pot, and I don’t really want to do that with a totally unscary board

To Be quite honest I think this entire hand was played horribly. Qxx on board and we have a piece, why didn’t we bet??? Kxx Qxx are excellent pots to pick up on.
However we take the elephant mode, and check and call. Now a nothing J hits the turn. I mean come on people when bluffing you are trying to represent another hand….. exactly what hand are you trying to make Phil think you have by checking the flop on a Q but betting the turn on a J??? Put it to you this way…. you got his spider senses going and he will never raise you here! any normal or better hand he is just going to call and put you to the test with favorable position on the river card.
However; “IF” you check/call the flop “AND” INSIST on bluffing the turn you should have atleast mirrored a real trapping hand by check raising…. i mean at least it has the added bonus of him probably checking out the turn, giving you a free draw.
Now we have blown both the flop and the turn, got his spider senses going crazy, and did absolutely nothing to get information from him……… GIVE UP! Go home and evaluate your HU play, and what you should be thinking about at that table

River was not sacry enough to make him fold even a low pair here. You cannot represent anything here.
Seems like a very easy c/f

Phil should have raised, not called the turn bet…perhaps all-in. Not only would he not have to worry about a river card, perhaps he would have had a call, as his opponent had 20 outs in this case!
We seem to put these Poker pros on a high pedestal…when really they are just like us but playing with more money!

I actually wrote a really big explanation going through my thought process, but forget that and here’s the short version.
I would have check/folded and the reason is easy.
With a flush draw on the flop you wouldn’t check with a pair, two pair, or a set. If I were Phil Ivey the only thing I’d think would beat me when the river card came was a 9/10 or J8. Two very specific small hands that most would fold after the flop bet.
Raising and trying to Bluff Ivey who you’re live and heads up with is suicide by itself as well.
Check/fold is the best move.
