Pai Gow Poker: Guide to Making Hands
In headsup play with a 3 to 1 chiplead, and a desperate opponent betting 7 times the big blind, i think this is a very easy call. An all in push, is a very weak bet, meaning he would surely would not have anything dominating you A – 10 to A-K or 9′s – A’s. Also a big strength ace does not come round that often in headsup play. Therefore i think you must call this. Most likely you have the best hand, and can is a chance to bust your opponent, you must take it.

You have 3-1 chips advantage
so if you lose it will be even. Your opponent showed aggression early and then settled down. This indicates to me he is playing fairly tight. your chips are 4500 and he has 1500…
chances are your opponent has an A with better kicker or a pocket pair. if the pair is bigger than the 9 you have about the same odds preflop to suckout.
Blinds are 100-200
pot is 1700 and it is 1500 to you I don’t like the odds preflop.
I would rather wait and grind it out.. let him win the pathetic blinds. he has an M of 5 and if I ouble him up his M doubles, I would rather him stay short…

Folding this hand would be very silly.
The read on the opponent: He is agressive, but slowed down during the bubble. Now he cant wait anybody out, and he is down to 7BB. He knows he has to push with any hand better than average.
With you holding A9, the chance he got a significantly better hand like 99, TT, JJ, QQ, KK, AA, AT, AJ, AQ or AK is only 5%. Yes, I did the math.
Say he is not sure with hands are better than average, and only push with the best quarter of possible hands. Then chances you are beat are 5%/25%=1/5.
So it is most likely that you are ahead. There is no way you can fold here, if you blind of untill you get a better hand he will have the chiplead by then. Even if he wins one way or the other you are just even, and you are in good shape.

I don’t understand the question. Heads up, any ace, if I win — I win, If I lose, I have half the chips.

I agree with drhoho completely. Couldn’t have said it better myself.

You guys come up with a lot of really good questions with tough decisions, meaning that there is no “correct” answer to them. This is one of them. It really, really, really depends on your assessment of your opponent’s mood at the moment.
I voted fold. My thinking is that with a weak ace I want to be the better, not the caller. Give me an A2 next hand and I’ll push, acting first.

Yeah you have to make that call, gotta take that chance, if you want to be a winner.

easy fold. if you’re extremely lucky here you’re a coinflip to win, but in all likelihood you’re dominated, and are just giving away the chiplead to him. his stack is big enough to seriously hurt you. if his stack was half this size you could afford to make this call. as it stands, getting overeager to end it and calling here would be a costly mistake.

Pretty easy fold IMO. I’ve found people often switch up their game HU (I know I do!) so I think it’s pretty difficult to put them on hand. It’s very possible they have a TT or better pocket pair or A w/better kicker.
No need to get antsy and double them up when you can grind them down. Wait to get a better read on their HU play.

I honestly don’t see how this is even a debate. This is an obvious call. I’ll take my chances here that I am more than likely ahead. If i’m a good player, being even in chips is not an issue in the least even if I lose. Insta-call!

there are so many hands i’m ahead of that he could make this move with. his range is any A, k-9+, any 2 face cards, or suited connectors down to 7-6. if i lose i’ll get it back later but i think i’m ahead the vast majority of the time.if i am then my chips have to go in.
