Daily Hand Quiz

Game type: No Limit
Your image: Tight, fairly Aggressive
Misc notes:
Your hand: K♥7♥

Preflop, you limp UTG with K♥7♥ and the Small Blind calls and the Big Blind Checks. The flop comes:

K♠4♥8♦

The Small Blind checks, Big Blind leads out for $10, you call, as does the Small Blind. The Turn is the 9♥ for a board of:

K♠4♥8♦9♥

So you’re now holding top pair with the flush draw but your kicker is highly suspect. Both of the blinds check to you on the turn and you bet $40. The Small Blind check raises you to 130, and the Big Blind folds.

After your bet on the turn you only have 130 in front of you. It’s $90 to call. What to do?

The main crucial information that is missing here is information about the SB. What kind of hands has he been playing so far? what kind of table image? how many pots has he been involved in etc. In the absence of such information you must as you say act on the odds

IMHO, you check the turn here. Take the free card. That was the big mistake.

It’s hard not to bet when your hand improves like this and it looks like you can pick up the pot.

I don’t think you can call. With a deeper stack, sure, but in this spot I think teh call is a losing play over time.

I think SB has either K8 or 44 and was waiting for the turn to raise. With either hand the 8h is no good for the flush and a 7 for two pair would be no good either. Fold.

I agree with Bill, that your up against a set. I would have checked the turn because of the weak kicker. You just about have to put the small blind surely has the set. For me, I am going to go all-incall and take my chances that the SB is trying to push me off or maybe I can get the flush without the 8h or another 7.

certainly not an obvious push. it might be a push if you had a very good read on villian.
